Implementation of Neonatal Referral System

Action for Mothers and Children, with the support from Solidar Suisse Kosovo and Dartmouth is implementing the Neonatal Referral System project that will assist the Neonatology Clinic in Prishtina design and implement a referral system. As part of the project the information session was organized the inform the stakeholders involved on the progress of the project so far and in preparation for the next steps of the project. The first Information Session on the new Neonatal Referral System, was organized with representatives from the Neonatal Clinic in Prishtina and representatives from the Neonatology units at the regional hospital in Gjilan, Peja and Mitrovica, at the Telemedicine Center at the UCCK in Prishtina.
The session was organized in the form of an open discussion facilitated by Dr. George Little from Dartmouth Medical School Dr. Little is one of the pioneers of the neonatal referral systems, and he will use his vast knowledge in the field to assist Kosovo in designing and implementing a referral system. At Dartmouth Medical School Dr. George Little is a Professor of Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynecology and he also works as a neonatologist at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in the United. Over the next few months training sessions will be organized between Dartmouth Medical School and Kosovo to help build the capacity of the staff that will work on the transport team and the regional hospitals. Additional information/consultation sessions will also be organized on a bimonthly basis with experts from Dartmouth volunteering their time to help with the programme and assist Kosovo in implementing the programme.
